Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our employee handbook service.

General

About Our Service

Every handbook is written from scratch by our specialists to match your specific industry, state, and company culture. We do not use generic fill-in-the-blank templates — your handbook is a fully custom document tailored to your business.
We cover all 50 US states. Each handbook is drafted with both federal employment law and your specific state labor regulations in mind. Our Professional and Complete plans also support multi-state compliance for businesses operating across state lines.
We specialize in handbooks for childcare and daycare centers, construction companies, restaurants, churches and nonprofits, plumbing and HVAC businesses, cleaning companies, dental offices, salons, landscaping, trucking, and many more. If your industry isn't listed, we can still create a custom handbook for you.
While there is no single federal law requiring all employers to have a handbook, certain states and municipalities do mandate written policies on topics like sexual harassment prevention, leave policies, and wage notices. Even where not strictly required, an employee handbook is strongly recommended to protect your business from lawsuits and ensure consistent policy enforcement.
Generally, an employee handbook is not considered a legally binding contract — but it depends on the language used. Poorly worded handbooks can inadvertently create implied contracts. That is why every SwiftHandbook document includes carefully drafted at-will disclaimers and acknowledgment language to protect your business from unintended contractual obligations.
Our handbooks are drafted by a team of HR compliance specialists with deep knowledge of federal and state employment law. Every document goes through a multi-step review process to ensure accuracy, compliance, and professional quality before delivery.
Hiring an attorney to draft a handbook typically costs $2,000-$5,000 and takes several weeks. SwiftHandbook delivers the same level of compliance-focused drafting at a fraction of the cost — starting at just $599 — with a 5-7 day turnaround. We always recommend a legal review for maximum protection, and our documents are designed to make that review fast and affordable.
Yes. We offer a free sample chapter so you can evaluate the quality, formatting, and level of detail before committing. Visit our Sample page or contact us to request one.
Yes, we offer professional Spanish translation of your complete handbook as an add-on for $199. This is especially valuable for businesses in industries like construction, cleaning, and food service where a significant portion of the workforce may be Spanish-speaking. Contact us if you need other languages.
We primarily serve small and mid-sized businesses with 5 to 500 employees. Whether you are a startup hiring your first team member or an established company needing to update outdated policies, our plans are designed to scale with your needs.
Process

How It Works

It is simple: (1) Fill out our intake questionnaire with details about your business, industry, and state. (2) Our team drafts your custom handbook. (3) You review and request any revisions. (4) We deliver your final handbook in PDF, Word, and Google Doc formats. The entire process typically takes 5-7 business days.
Standard delivery is 5 business days for Starter and Professional plans, and 7 business days for the Complete plan. We also offer a rush 48-hour delivery option for an additional fee if you need your handbook urgently.
We send you a simple intake questionnaire covering your company name, industry, state(s) of operation, number of employees, benefits offered, and any specific policies you want included. It takes most clients about 15-20 minutes to complete.
Absolutely. We deliver your handbook in editable Word and Google Doc formats so you can make minor updates yourself at any time. For significant policy changes, we recommend using our update service to ensure continued compliance.
All plans include a polished PDF for distribution and an editable Word document. The Professional and Complete plans also include a shared Google Doc link for easy collaboration and cloud-based access.
The Starter and Professional plans include 2 rounds of revisions, and the Complete plan includes 3 rounds. During each revision round, you can request changes to tone, wording, or policy details. We work with you until the handbook matches your expectations.
Yes. If you need your handbook urgently, we offer a 48-hour rush delivery option for an additional fee. Contact us at contact@swifthandbook.com to discuss rush availability and pricing for your project.
Yes. We offer an Additional Policy add-on for $99 per policy. Whether you need a new cannabis policy, remote work agreement, or social media guidelines added after delivery, we can draft and integrate it into your existing handbook.
Pricing

Plans & Costs

Our plans start at $599 for the Starter tier (25-35 pages), $899 for Professional (40-60 pages with industry-specific clauses), and $1,499 for Complete (60-80+ pages with multi-state compliance and a consultation). There are no hidden fees — you know exactly what you pay upfront.
The Starter plan includes 15-20 custom policies and single-state compliance. The Professional plan adds industry-specific clauses, anti-harassment policies, and Google Doc delivery. The Complete plan includes multi-state compliance (up to 3 states), enhanced policies, a 1-hour consultation, and 3 revision rounds. Visit our Pricing page for full details.
No. The price you see is the price you pay. Your selected plan includes everything listed — drafting, formatting, revisions, and delivery. Add-ons like translation, annual updates, and extra policies are optional and clearly priced.
We currently require full payment before we begin drafting. However, for the Complete plan ($1,499), we can arrange a two-part payment — 50% upfront and 50% on delivery. Contact us to discuss your needs.
We offer four add-ons: Annual Update ($199/year) to keep your handbook current with law changes, Spanish Translation ($199) for bilingual workforces, Additional Policy ($99 each) for custom policies not in your plan, and an Onboarding Package ($199) with welcome letters and first-day checklists.
Yes. If you start with the Starter plan and later need more comprehensive coverage, you can upgrade by paying the difference between plans. We will expand your existing handbook rather than starting from scratch, so you keep all your current content.
Legal

Legal & Compliance

No, SwiftHandbook is not a law firm. We are a professional HR document drafting service. Our handbooks are written by compliance specialists with deep knowledge of employment law, but we do not provide legal advice. We always recommend having your final handbook reviewed by a qualified attorney in your state.
We strongly recommend it. While our handbooks are drafted to high compliance standards, having a local employment attorney review the final document provides an extra layer of protection. Our employee handbook review service ensures the document is attorney-ready, which makes the legal review process faster and more affordable.
Employment laws change frequently at both the state and federal level. We offer an Annual Update add-on for $199/year where we review your handbook against current legislation and update any affected policies. This keeps your handbook compliant year after year.
Our handbooks are drafted to comply with major federal employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, OSHA, and EEOC guidelines. We also incorporate state-specific requirements such as mandatory leave policies, wage notification rules, and anti-harassment training mandates.
Our handbooks are carefully drafted to avoid creating unintended contractual obligations. They include proper at-will disclaimers and acknowledgment pages. However, specific policies within the handbook (such as anti-harassment procedures) do create enforceable expectations. This is by design — it protects both you and your employees.
SwiftHandbook provides professionally written HR documents and is not a substitute for legal advice. We are not a law firm, and our employees are not acting as your attorney. We recommend that all handbooks be reviewed by qualified legal counsel before distribution to employees.

Updates & Support

Yes. Our Annual Update add-on costs $199 per year. Each year, we review your handbook against current federal and state employment law changes and update any affected sections. You receive a revised document with a summary of all changes made.
If you have our Annual Update service, we proactively review and update your handbook when significant law changes take effect. Without the update service, we recommend checking in annually to ensure your policies remain compliant. You can always order individual policy updates at $99 each.
Yes. We offer 30 days of email support after delivery for any questions about your handbook. If you need guidance on implementation, distribution, or employee acknowledgment, we are here to help. The Complete plan also includes a 1-hour consultation call.
Our core service is handbook drafting, not ongoing HR consulting. However, our Annual Update service provides yearly check-ins, and you can always order additional policies or revisions as needed. For day-to-day HR support, we recommend partnering with a dedicated HR consultant or PEO.
